Join Supporting Students with Special Needs

Supporting Students with Special Needs is a free professional learning community that provides K-12 educators with a place to collaborate on best practices for helping students with learning challenges so they can learn and grow to their full potential. We will explore new insights on supporting students with learning difficulties, emotional challenges, physical disabilities, communications impairments, behavioral problems, or developmental delays. Together we will work on providing appropriate education to all students by identifying and diagnosing students with unique needs so that we can design effective instruction, support, and services for them. Topics we will cover include:

  • Meeting the goals and objectives of an Individual Education Plan (IEP)
  • Providing inclusive education that benefits all students in the classroom
  • Strategies for working with support service personnel and administrators
  • Successful collaboration among general educators and special educators
  • Legal issues, including the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA)
  • Building strong home-school relationships
  • Pedagogy and educational acceleration for gifted and talented students
