The edWeb Team
Lisa Schmucki
Lisa Schmucki, Founder & CEO – Lisa developed the idea and vision for the edWeb after seeing how her daughter and friends were using Facebook. Lisa saw how social networking could help teachers, and all educators, connect and collaborate. The edWeb was launched in collaboration with two long-time industry colleagues, Michael Mantell and Alex Oss. Lisa is an education industry executive with 30 years experience in product development, database development, and marketing. Lisa has held senior marketing positions with MKTG Services, Achieve3000, Films Media Group, Peterson's Guides, Macmillan Book Clubs, and Time-Life Books. She founded Bridgepoint Marketing Services, a marketing consulting company. Lisa is a graduate of Princeton University and has a Masters Degree from the Stern School of Business at NYU.
Michael Mantell
Michael Mantell, Co-Founder & Advisor – Michael Mantell was a founding investor and a member of the initial edWeb start-up team. His initial investment and his early-stage participation in getting the site up and running were critical to our early success. Michael currently serves as an advisor to the edWeb. He is the founder and president of Golden Peak Group LLC, a company that provides consulting services and capital for early stage web companies. He was the founder and president of Edudex, an e-commerce website for the education community. He was COO of Films for the Humanities & Sciences (now Films Media Group), one of the leading producers and creators of educational video.
Alex Oss
Alex Oss, Co-Founder & CTO – Alex Oss is the edWeb's technology genius who makes our ideas and vision for the edWeb become a reality. Thanks to Alex, we have received kudos on our easy and intuitive functionality from both techies and novices. Alex Oss has 20 years of experience in enterprise applications, systems design, programming, and a wide range of IT-related responsibilities. Alex has designed and built several generations of database marketing systems and websites using education data. Previously, Alex was Director of Enterprise Applications at Films Media Group, where he began his career as a programmer/analyst. Alex is a graduate of Princeton University with a major in mathematics.
Mauri Greaves, Implementation Support/Graphic Design – Mauri is a graphic designer and editorial director and developed the logo and design for the edWeb. We get many compliments on our clean and attractive look and feel thanks to Mauri. She creates all of our communications materials. Mauri also provides implementation support and training for our users. Mauri was formerly creative services director and manager of all websites for Films Media Group.
MCH, Inc. – MCH is strategic partner of the edWeb. Peter Long, Chairman; John Hood, President; Joan Whitney, Director of Sales; and Kirk Chritton, Director of Marketing are all members of the edWeb team. MCH is an enthusiastic supporter of the opportunities that the edWeb provides for educators to connect peer to peer, and also as a way for education companies to have more direct contact with educators. MCH maintains a K-12 educator email file and helps the edWeb invite K-12 educators across the country to join. MCH works with corporate sponsors to help them use the edWeb as a social media channel to engage in meaningful dialogue with educators.
Eleanor Oakes
Eleanor Oakes, edWeb Advisor – Eleanor, Lisa Schmucki's daughter, has provided continual advice and support on the edWeb. Lisa learned all about Facebook (and joined) thanks to her daughter's encouragement. She wrote a paper recommending a site similar to the edWeb for a sociology class at Princeton University. As Coordinator of Programs and Events for the School of Visual Arts in NYC, Eleanor has created a community for photography educators on the edWeb and continues to provide ideas for improving the site.
Jeremy Johnson
Jeremy Johnson, edWeb Advisor – Jeremy advises the edWeb on all things related to social media and entrepreneurship. As a Princeton undergrad, Jeremy won a business plan competition for a social network for college admissions called Zandigo (now Zinch.com). Lisa helped Jeremy create a marketing plan for Zandigo, and through that process realized the benefits of a social network for the education community. Jeremy is now CTO at 2tor.com, helping major universities launch online education programs.
