Emerging Tech: Using Technology to Advance Your School Library Program

Emerging Tech Webinar

Preview the webinar "Digital Citizenship Part I: Ethics, Creative Commons, and Intellectual Property" with Michelle Luhtala, host and presenter of this edWeb.net community, and winner of the 2010 National School Library Program of the Year Award.

Welcome to Emerging Tech, a highly acclaimed professional learning community (PLC) on integrating technology into your school library program.

This is a collaborative online community where school librarians can explore all the ways to integrate technology and 21st century learning into school library programs. We focus on student needs and pedagogical initiatives like responsive teaching and differentiation, and how social media in your library program can favorably influence professional development in your school and district. You will see examples of library assessment in all forms of social media, and how student responses have informed library instruction and program delivery.

In our series of free webinars, live chats, and online discussions, you'll collaborate with other librarians as you learn about and explore the many uses of technology in school libraries. This is an information-packed and lively program that challenges participants to wrestle with the challenges schools face in “a future that is beyond our ability to visualize.”  If you are an advocate for change and open access in your district, you will acquire a solid body of evidence to support your case.

Topics explored include:

  • Millenials and Digital Brains
  • Social Capital
  • Visibility & Advocacy
  • eBooks, eReaders, and Mobile Devices
  • Earning Recognition
  • Using Video to Increase Instructional Availability
  • Filtering and AUPs
  • Digital Citizenship
  • Global Collaboration
  • Online Professional Developmentment
  • Mobile Learning
  • eLearning
  • and much more...

As a member of the community, you'll be invited to a free webinar and live chat each month on a different topic.  You'll have access to all of the webinar recordings and resource materials, providing you with an online resource library you can return to at any time. CE certificates are provided for attending and viewing the webinars.  Emerging Tech began in July 2010 and now has an archive of more than 15 free webinars.

The Emerging Tech PLC is a place where you can post questions, start discussions, and get feedback from experts and peers on the issues and challenges of building and advocating for a school library program that is a critical support for teaching and learning in your school and district.
